Step-by-step: how to cancel

Step 1 — Gather your documents. You'll want your contract/agreement, the vehicle VIN, your account or loan number, and proof of any triggering event (payoff letter, refinance confirmation, trade-in paperwork, or total-loss settlement).

Step 2 — Cancel through the dealer or directly. You can cancel through the selling dealer or contact Express Systems directly at (800) 705-4001. Going direct removes the middleman if the dealer is slow.

Step 3 — Confirm the refund destination.If there's a lien on the vehicle, confirm whether the refund goes to your lienholder and is applied to your loan.

Final step — Track the refund. Processing typically takes payment is made within 30 days of the cancellation notice. Payable to you, or to the lienholder where applicable.
