Can you cancel SWBC GAP?

Yes. SWBC GAP contracts are cancellable, and what you get back depends on timing: a prorated refund for the unused portion, with a full refund possible during your contract's free-look window. The unused premium is money you're owed — it doesn't belong to the dealer or administrator.

Step-by-step: how to cancel

Step 1 — Gather your documents. You'll want your contract/agreement, the vehicle VIN, your account or loan number, and proof of any triggering event (payoff letter, refinance confirmation, trade-in paperwork, or total-loss settlement).

Step 2 — Start with the selling dealer. SWBC GAP contracts are normally cancelled through the dealership's finance department. Tell them you want to cancel and ask them to submit the request to the administrator. Get the request and date in writing.

Step 3 — Go direct if the dealer stalls. If the dealer drags their feet, contact SWBC GAP directly at (866) 270-3672 ext. 1. Dealers earn commission on these products and sometimes delay cancellations.

Final step — Track the refund. Processing time varies. If your loan is active, the refund is generally applied to your loan balance.Follow up if it doesn't arrive on schedule.

How much will you get back?

Check your contract's free-look window for full-refund eligibility (see your GAP addendum's free-look terms). After that, your refund is partial refund for the unused portion, less a cancellation fee.

As a rule of thumb, the prorated math is: (months remaining ÷ total term) × price paid − fees. If your loan is active, the refund is generally applied to your loan balance.
